Crocheted Encouragement by ~inknote:iconinknote:

Crocheted Encouragement

I sit in pure awe at what you do,
How perfectly each knit is made.
Mother, won't you make something for me?
A scarf to wear around my neck,
Or a hat to warm my ears?
Remember how you used to make my Barbie dolls clothes?
And magnificent works for a baby's warmth?
Remember when you tried to teach me how
To crochet those pretties?
But with a fumble of movement, I wanted to give up.
You encouraged me to try again.
And you'd start to make my scarf,
My hat,
But slowly you stopped the projects.
They are now in a closet, tossed for waste.
And that encouragement you gave me must be there too!
Yes, that's it!
That word of certainty must be tangled in the yarn
Left unfinished as well.
Mother, won't you make something for me?
A scarf to wear around my neck,
Or a hat to warm my ears?
Better yet, why not the encouraging love...
Freely created... but only in my younger years.
For taht love and encouragement warms me
Even more than a hand-made gift.
To warm a soul...
You need a gift from the heart,
Not with yarn and tools.
Mother, won't you make that again?
You can still pick up where you left off.
Or am I in the closet, tangled and left for waste as well?
Only to be forgotten with the memories of love.
Instead of a scarf now,
I have loose yarn.
I guess this will have to do.
Though it's not as warm,
And you have forgotten how...
Not how to crochet,
But you've forgotten how to warm a daughter's heart.

A poem that I wrote a while ago. My mother and I don't have the best relationship ever. One of my earliest memories is watching her crochet though. To this day, we still don't get along well.
